Scope of Work:
- Reconstruction of approximately 2300 centerline feet of variable width existing roadway
- Widening the roadway to allow on street parking – both sides
- Replacing sidewalks and bringing curb ramps and crossings into ADA compliance
- Upgrading and replacing approximately 2800 lf of storm sewer
- Lowering water mains and replacing water services
- Replacing sanitary services at conflicts with storm sewer
- Centerline roadway re-profiling along with up to 18” of undercutting to replace unstable soils
- Upgrading signage and pavement markings
Challenges to Overcome:
During the North Maple Street project, we faced several challenges that required innovative solutions and meticulous planning:
- Site Access: Limited access to certain areas of the park made transporting materials and equipment challenging. Especially while performing deep undercutting of subgrade
- Site Conditions: Preserving shallow existing utilities during undercutting operations and keeping residents in operations during utility relocations. Upgrading storm sewer sizing while holding relatively shallow inverts to meet existing downstream utility connections.
- Community Impact: Ensuring minimal disruption to the residents and allowing 1 lane traffic during storm sewer removal and installation, deep base undercutting and driveway replacements
- Environmental Considerations: Preserving existing Indiana Bat habitats, removing 20 large diameter trees before migration season started
In Conclusion:
During the North Maple Street project, we had very positive responses while working with the City of Eaton’s Management Team which made this a positive joint Team effort and City of Eaton residents were very positive throughout the whole construction process.
