Public spaces do more than fill a map—they shape how people connect, move, and experience their communities. From walking trails and playgrounds to streetscapes and plazas, these spaces are the heartbeat of our towns and cities. At Double Jay Construction, we believe great construction starts with people in mind. That’s why community-centric design is at the core of how we build Ohio’s future.

Designing with Purpose

A well-designed public space is more than just functional—it’s inviting, inclusive, and engaging. Community-centric design focuses on the needs of the people who will use the space, not just the requirements of the blueprint. Whether we’re installing new sidewalks in Dayton or creating safer crossings in Springboro, we’re always thinking about who walks, bikes, plays, and lives there.

We work closely with city planners, parks departments, and neighborhood stakeholders to ensure every detail—from the slope of a curb ramp to the placement of a bench—contributes to a welcoming, accessible environment.

Success Story: North Park in Springboro, OH

One of our favorite examples of this approach is our work at North Park in Springboro. Tasked with revitalizing the park’s pathways and public gathering areas, we focused on how people of all ages and abilities would interact with the space.

The result? Wider, ADA-compliant walkways, improved drainage for year-round use, and design elements that complement the natural surroundings. Families now enjoy more accessible play areas, runners benefit from smoother paths, and local events have a more functional layout—all of which contribute to a stronger sense of community pride.

Safety, Accessibility, and Beauty

Community-centric doesn’t mean complicated—it means intentional. Safety is always our top priority, but we also aim to deliver spaces that feel good to be in. That might mean using slip-resistant materials, softening edges with landscaping, or upgrading lighting to improve visibility at night.

We also advocate for universal design principles—ensuring our work serves people of all abilities, including seniors, children, and those with mobility challenges. When a space works for everyone, it becomes a true asset to the neighborhood.

Long-Term Value for Local Governments

Public projects are an investment in the community, and we treat them that way. By building with durable materials, anticipating wear and tear, and planning for future growth, we help cities and townships make the most of their budgets while minimizing future maintenance.

We also factor in sustainability and stormwater management whenever possible, helping communities comply with environmental standards while keeping green space functional and attractive.

Building Stronger Communities, One Project at a Time

At Double Jay Construction, we don’t just build concrete paths or install curbs—we help shape the places where people live their lives. When a sidewalk leads to a safe crosswalk, a park invites people to gather, or a plaza supports local events, we know we’ve done more than complete a job—we’ve helped build community.

And as we continue to serve cities across Ohio, we remain committed to putting people first. Because when construction is driven by community, everyone benefits.
